The world has become increasingly smaller with growing reliance between nation and countries, which is substantially supported by technological infrastructure. This happens as a result from globalisation and it is rather impossible to determine a positive or a negative outcome.
A globalised world does not quite mean one universal society. The identity of cultures continues to exist as a whole and progresses in parallel with globalisation.
For an artist’s capacity to construct his aspects of personality, locality and universality is greatly influenced by the ideal creative environment in a certain place and community. Yogyakarta is a region where traditional values are still preserved in the daily practices of its people and is also known for its art scene which is considered as a unique environment for them.
With the intention to bring such awareness into the local scene, Galeri Chandan invites you to cast the net beyond the Malaysian border and discover the artworks of 12 Indonesian artists, Aan Arif Rahmanto, Abdul Fattah, Anang Asmara, Antoni Eka Putra, AT. Sitompul, Budi Eka Putra, Dedy Sufriadi, Hadi Marsono, Hadi Soesanto, I Made ‘Romi’ Sukadana, Ricky Wahyudi and RM. Soni Irawan. Not only the outstanding beauty of their heritage should be appreciated but observe the metaphors of life in their society as well. Works portrayed translate universal issues and the struggle of identity in keeping up with the world of which we can also relate to.
Exhibition will be held from 10th October until 24th October at Galeri Chandan and continues on 31st October until 13th November at White Box, MAP @ Publika.
